ADVANTECH AND VERSO ANNOUNCE SUCCESSFUL INTEROPERABILITY TESTS FOR OPTIMIZATION OF CELLULAR SATELLITE BACKHAULING
MONTREAL, February 11, 2008 — Verso Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: VRSO), a global provider of next generation network solutions, and Advantech Satellite Networks, a world leader in satellite-based broadband communication networks, today announced the successful completion of cellular backhaul interoperability tests.
Advantech Satellite Networks has certified and tested interoperability of Verso’s NetPerformer & AccessGate products and its DVB-RCS MF-TDMA satellite system. The combined solution, which greatly reduces the amount of bandwidth required for cellular backhaul, is well-suited to generate optimization for GSM A-bis and A-ter, as well as for CDMA.
With the Advantech Satellite Networks open standard DVB-RCS satellite platform and the Verso cellular optimized solution, 2G and 3G operators can provide new services to remote regions where traditional backhaul technologies are not available today or simply were not economically viable. Furthermore, the Advantech Satellite Networks IP-based system also provides the capability to support other combined services, such as WiFi or WiMax, VoIP services, or the provision of internet connectivity.
"Verso’s NetPerformer and AccessGate interoperated successfully with our DVB-RCS IP broadband platform, thus delivering a significant reduction in backhaul costs, a cost reduction that is crucial to the very success of cellular operators," commented Donald Osborne, President of Advantech Satellite Networks. "The combination of optimized satellite bandwidth utilization and advanced Quality of Service (QoS) features makes it easier for cellular operators to provide A-bis optimization solutions over IP broadband satellite resulting in a net increase in their revenue opportunities."
